8.Click “connect” to get the connection with VPN Service.
Note:By default,Windows 7 sets a group of types of VPN in the setting. You could manually set it into PPTP only to reduce the waiting time of connecting the VPN server. The following steps will teach you to set it into PPTP only:
1.Go to “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center”.
2.Click “connect to a network” and you will see the connection you just created.
3.Right click on the created connection and click “properties”.
4.In the windows, find “security’ tab and click on it.
5.Choose “Point to Point Tunneling Protocol(PPTP)” under “Type of VPN”.
6.Click “OK” and all have been done.
For Windows XP users:
1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
2. Open the Network Connections item in Control Panel. A list of existing dial-up and LAN connections will appear.
3. Choose the ‘Create a new connection’ item from the left-hand side of the window. The Windows XP New Connection Wizard will appear on the screen.
4. First click Next to begin the wizard, then choose the ‘Connect to the network at my workplace’ item from the list and click Next.
5. On the Network Connection page of the wizard, choose the ‘Virtual Private Network connection’ option and click Next.
6. Enter a name for the new VPN connection in the ‘Company Name’ field and click Next. The name chosen need not match the name of an actual business.
7. Choose an option on the ‘Public Network’ screen and click Next. The default option, ‘Automatically dial this initial connection’ can be used if the VPN connection will always be initiated when the computer is not already connected to the Internet. Otherwise, choose the ‘Do not dial the initial connection’ option. This option requires that the public Internet connection be established first, before this new VPN connection will be initiated.
8. Enter the name or IP address of the VPN remote access server to connect to, and click Next. The network administrators will provide this information.
9. Choose an option on the “Connection Availability” screen and click Next. The default option, ‘My Use Only,’ ensures that Windows will make this new connection available only to the currently logged on user. Otherwise, choose the ‘Anyone’s use’ option.
10.Click Finish to complete the wizard. The new VPN connection information has been saved.
Tips:
1. While no practical limits exist on what may be entered in the ‘Company Name’ field, choose a connection name that will be easy to recognize later.
2. Take special care to key the VPN server name/IP address data correctly. The Windows XP wizard does not automatically validate this server information.
For Windows Vista users:
1. click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and select Set up a connection or network, and then click Connect to a workplace. Press Next.
2. A dialog window will display asking you “How do you want to connect?” When it does, select “Use my Internet connection (VPN).
3. You will now be presented with a screen titled “Type the Internet address to connect to.” Type the IP address I gave to you earlier into the field named Internet address. Next, enter the Destination name. This could be anything descriptive (i.e., eastmail). Finally, check the option “Don’t connect now; just set it up so I can connect later. Press Next to continue.
4. The next screen asks you to enter your user name and password. Filling it in lets you log in faster, but it’s less secure. Leaving it blank means entering your info every time you want to connect to the VPN, this is more secure. You can choose your way. Press Create when ready to proceed. Then press Close.
5. With that complete, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and select Manage network connections from the Tasks Pane on the left.
6. Now right-click on the VPN connection you just created and select Properties.
7. Go to the Security tab, select the Advanced (custom settings) and press Settings.
8. Set the Data encryption field for “Maximum strength encryption (discount if server declines)”.
9. Where it says “Allow these protocols” check only “Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2). Click OK.
